Loki helmet build
30 Mar 2021
This is a Loki helmet for my partner, who wants to do a Loki cosplay at some point. I've created my own templates for this, based on stills from the 'Thor Ragnarok' movie.
I started by carving out one of the horns in some polystyrene, then used foil and tape to make a template. Cut it out in 5mm foam and curved it while gluing.
The other parts are build using 3mm and 5mm foam.
Painting was done with some rubber based paint as an undercoat, and then some cheap Aldi gold paint applied with cheap Aldi airbrush. It came out way better than I expected, so I'm super happy with that.
Green details were done by hand - I did try the clear green paint in the airbrush, but it wouldn't flow up the feeder tube. So a brush was used. It came out OK after 3 coats.
Seeing as my head is much bigger than my partner's, I put a velcro fasten on the back, which can be adjusted for bigger noggins.
Overall, I'm pleased how this came out. Now we just need the pandemic to be done, so the nerd conventions start up again.
